Vocal Audition Process
STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO PERFORM FROM AN ORIGINAL OF THEIR AUDITION MUSIC
Consult the All State Music Festival Handbook for complete Adjudication Information
AUDITION TIMES
Auditions will be scheduled based on the highest number of any voice part submitted by each school. The Rhythmic, Melodic and Sightreading portion will be scheduled in a separate room.
ADJUDICATION
Students may audition on more than one voice part as long as they were correctly listed on their school's computer application for each audition and the appropriate number of fees were paid. Students may not audition on the same voice twice regardless of the information on the application form or the number of fees paid. Students may not audition on a different voice than the one(s) listed for them on their school's computer application for Brass, Woodwind, Percussion and String Auditions.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
To complete their audition, students must:
-
QUARTET AUDITION: Perform their voice part of the appropriate audition piece in its entirety, accompanied by individual students on the other three parts (a quartet).
-
SOLO : Perform the appropriate solo portion of the audition piece, unaccompanied.
-
SCALES: Perform, in solfege, a full eight note major scale ascending and descending, and the appropriate arpeggio, unaccompanied, at given starting pitch.
-
SIGHTREADING: Perform a short melodic selection after being given a minute to review and silently prepare. The tempo for the sightreading will be given by the adjudicator both before the review and before the performance.
