Vocal Audition Process - Audio Recordings
Three recordings submitted for a vocal audition
STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO PERFORM FROM AN ORIGINAL OF THEIR AUDITION MUSIC FOR THE RECORDING
Audition times will vary based on the length of the piece being performed. Rests need be counted through in tempo. Scales and arpeggios will be performed at the tempos required.
Students who audition under the Vocal Audition format are applying for acceptance into the Festival Chorus. A separate audition is required to be considered for acceptance into other groups.
Students may audition on more than one voice part as long as they were correctly listed on their school's computer application for each audition and the appropriate number of fees were paid. Students may not audition on the same voice twice regardless of the information on the application form or the number of fees paid. Students may not audition on a different voice than the one(s) listed for them on their school's computer application for Brass, Woodwind, Percussion and String Auditions.
To complete their audition, students must:
Record their performance of the appropriate audition piece in its entirety, accompanied by the sound track of the other three parts. Sound tracks will be available for download from the Documents page. The sound track must be included in the audio recording. The student must perform the piece from an original copy or from memory.
Record their performance of the appropriate audition piece in its entirety, accompanied by individual student on the other three parts (a quartet). This option would only be if the recording can be done according to the current AoE / CDC guidelines in place at that time. The other students must be high school students, but do not have to be from the same school as the auditioning student.
In addition, the auditioning student must:
Record their performance of the solo portion of the audition piece, unaccompanied.
Record their performance of a full eight note major scale ascending and descending, and the appropriate arpeggio, unaccompanied and at any appropriate starting pitch.
To complete each student's audition, teachers must:
Submit three recordings for each student through the Upload site.
The first recording will be the quartet in its entirety, the second will be the solo and the third will be the scale and arpeggio.
Auditions will not be considered unless all three recordings are uploaded for the student applicant.
All recordings must be in MP3 format
