TECHNICAL JAZZ EXCERPT REQUIREMENT FOR
ALL JAZZ AUDITIONS EXCEPT DRUMMERS
 
Students should prepare the Technical Jazz Excerpt included on this website for performance during their audition.
The excerpt will be performed without any accompaniment.
The adjudicators will evaluate that performance on Rhythmic Accuracy, Melodic Accuracy and Expressive Elements

DRUMMERS' SPECIAL AUDITION REQUIREMENTS 
Drive the Little Big Band
Backup the Little Big Band, one or more soloists and perform drum solos

 

SCHOLARSHIP PERFORMANCE GUIDELINES
Please refer to the appropriate section of the handbook for the complete guidelines.

Scholarship performance auditions are accepted on Brass, Woodwind, String, and Percussion instruments, on Piano, and for solo Voice as well as for Jazz (involving a lead part with rhythm section).
Any high quality, appropriate for the instrument or voice, solo selection (except for the current All State audition piece for this instrument) is acceptable for use as a scholarship audition.
Performances must be at least 5 minutes in length BUT can be no longer than 10 minutes total. Multiple movements or multiple works may be used to meet this requirement.
The performance must be accompanied if written to be so and must be completely memorized.

COMPOSITION SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES
Please refer to the appropriate section of the handbook for the complete guidelines.

Compositions must be original concepts and not arrangements of other's work. Compositions may be written for any solo or musical ensemble.
The recording should be of the appropriate ensemble for the composition, but MIDI recordings are accepted. Piano reductions are not acceptable for the recording.
The MAXIMUM total performance time of the composition (determined by the tempo & time signature markings AND the recording time) is limited to 7 minutes.
The composer MUST provide a written Statement of Artist Intent with their submission along with four copies of the score and a recording of a performance of the piece.
